Story of Brenda Campbell

Brenda Jeanette Campbell, 51, was from Winnipeg but had roots in Duck Bay and Camperville, Man.

She had several children and was known as kind, with a strong spirit.

On July 7, 2016, Campbell was killed in a house fire. Her death was treated as a homicide. In July 2017, two men, Jonathon Graham Barstad, 34, and Edward Wade Beardy, 35, were charged with second-degree murder and two counts of arson with disregard for life.

The police believe the fire was set to target residents who had connections to gangs. Instead the fire claimed the lives of Brenda, who went by the name Jeanette, and another man. They were not the intended victims and neither had ties to gangs.
