Inusiq was from Iqaluit, Nunavut. She was strangled to death at the age of 39 in her apartment by her common-law husband, Kootoo Korgak(Quaraq).
Kootoo was already facing charges of assaulting Inusiq at the time of her murder. An arrest warrant had been issued for him a month earlier when he failed to show up in court on the assault charges.
Kootoo was convicted of second-degree murder in April 2001 and is serving a life sentence.
